STL File for 3D Printable Tail Boom for Freewing AL37 Tanker Conversion

$15.00

Convert your Freewing AL37 into a tanker with this tail boom mod! This is the 3d Printable STL file only – see other listing for printed and shipped parts.

Printing Recommendations: Parts in the STL file are oriented for printing with the horizontal stabilizer requiring supports (oriented at 45 degrees so the upper (upside down) leading edge is flat on the build plate) and the mount halves also requiring supports (cradling the outer curved surface). Other orientations may also work perfectly fine though it is recommended that layer orientation be considered for the long thin parts and functional hinge features to prevent forces acting against layer adhesion.

Part fitments: The control horn, depending on the print tolerance, should be a press fit (use a hammer and deep socket) to attach the control horn to the hinge end of the boom. The fuel line (see image of parts separated) should be a loose fit in the boom, can be attached with adhesive (static position) or can be tied with a reliable string; can be tied directly to the boom or if you’re up for the challenge you could potentially route the string from the inner end of the fuel line part through the aft half of the boom up into the fuselage tail and operate the whole boom with a winch servo and gravity. This design currently does not have any parts for mounting a winch servo within the tail. The remaining parts should fit together well depending on printer tolerances but should still be secured with an appropriate adhesive (glue, epoxy, rtv, etc…). There are provisions to secure the two boom halves together with a small screw should assembly and disassembly be a desired feature.
